What you see is what you get with the front-wheel-drive 2024 Elantra N, as Hyundai presents it in a singular trim package. Its 2.0L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder engine puts out 276 horsepower and 289 pounds-feet of torque (with premium fuel). This is a true performance car, and as such you can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) with paddle shifters. The proprietary N Grin Control system allows the driver to select from several modes as they wish, including Normal, Eco, N, Sport, and Custom. The Elantra N with the DCT comes with N Grin Shift, allowing the driver to press a button for a brief 10-hp boost. When it’s engaged, this fun feature automatically shifts the DCT to the lowest gear and holds it for 20 seconds. The car also has a high-performance brake system with 14-2-inch ventilated front rotors and high-friction pads that stand up to the higher heat generated by high-performance braking.
Better fuel economy is achieved with the manual transmission, which returns an EPA-estimated rating 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. These numbers aren’t dramatically different with the automatic, though, which achieves 20 mpg city/27 mpg highway.
The Elantra N’s track-inspired interior has heated sport-bucket front seats with illuminated N logos, leather upholstery with Alcantara panels, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, a four-way adjustable passenger seat, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster with performance readouts (lap timer, shift indicator, and track map), push-button ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, an leather-wrapped N-style steering wheel and shift knob, wireless device charging, alloy sport pedals, four USB ports (two front, two rear), the Hyundai Digital Key, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, a 1-piece folding bench rear seat, and a power tilt-and-slide sunroof (automatic only).
On the exterior, look for a variable exhaust valve system with a matte black rear diffuser, LED daytime running lights, dual LED projector headlights, full LED taillights, dual folding heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, a matte-black front grille, gloss-black window trim, proximity keyless entry, body-colored door handles, a wing-type rear spoiler, a unique N front and rear fascia, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, and 19-inch alloy wheels.
With Hyundai’s SmartSense system of driver aids as a standard feature, the Elantra N’s occupants enjoy an added level of safety. The technologies included are forward collision avoidance assist, pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, lane keep assist, lane following assist, driver attention monitoring, automatic high-beam headlights, safe exit warning, and intelligent speed limit assist. A full set of airbags is installed as well, as are forward and reverse parking sensors and a rearview camera.
The Elantra N comes with a 10.25-inch high-resolution touchscreen infotainment system with dynamic voice recognition. Its other important features are navigation, Bluetooth technology for hands-free phone and audio streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, the Bluelink+ Connected Car capability, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay. The sound quality is excellent, thanks to a high-end Bose system with eight speakers and a subwoofer.
