SANTA CRUZ
It’s stating the obvious to say that the Hyundai Santa Cruz is unlike any other vehicle in its class. All you need to do is glance at it, and then try naming another model that has an open-air bed with an adjustable utility track rail and cleat system. This “sport adventure vehicle,” as Hyundai calls it, supplies the best of both of those worlds. With an available 281-horsepower turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive, the Santa Cruz can handle the typical duties of a small utility vehicle, while its truck-like bed provides the convenience and utility of a pickup. Just about any driver can appreciate this vehicle’s clear value, as even the entry-level SE comes with a 12.3-inch audio-video navigation screen, wireless versions of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wealth of Hyundai SmartSense advanced safety technologies, and of course, America’s Best Warranty coverage, led by 10 years/100K miles on the powertrain.
This latest Santa Cruz shows off changes inside and out, including an aggressively restyled front end with large vertical chambers for its grille and stacked LED lighting on each side. The interior mimics this design concept with more vertical lines and a curved, panoramic approach to the dash that blends its instrument panel and infotainment screen seamlessly. Plus, Hyundai has restyled the steering wheel, air vents, and second-row center armrest, while its multimedia and HVAC controls have moved toward more buttons/switches in response to customer feedback. But the most notable changes can be found on the XRT, which is even more off-road-ready now thanks to a higher approach angle, all-terrain tires, and front tow hooks, as well as aesthetic updates with a new wheel design and available Canyon Red paint.
Shop Hyundai Santa CruzTrims and Powertrain
The ‘25 Santa Cruz lineup consists of five trim packages and two powertrain choices. The SE, SEL, and SEL Activity have a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drivetrain (FWD), with all-wheel drive (AWD) available. This base powertrain has an output of 191 horsepower and 181 lb.-ft. of torque, with EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway with FWD and 21 mpg city/29 mpg highway with AWD.
The XRT and Limited come only as AWD. They move up to a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder paired with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. Although both trims will generate up to 281 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque, their fuel economy numbers vary, with the XRT returning 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway while the Limited achieves 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway. When the 2025 Santa Cruz is outfitted with trailer brakes, it can tow up to 3,500 pounds with FWD and as much as 5,000 pounds with AWD.
