2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Hero

The Ioniq 9 has stirred up the world of Hyundai with its introduction as the brand’s long-awaited three-row all-electric crossover. This debuting model gives Hyundai a variety of EVs, with the Ioniq 5 compact crossover and the Ioniq 6 sedan. The Ioniq 9 and the Ioniq 5 are assembled in Georgia at Hyundai’s new Metaplant America facility. The ultra-modern exterior design jibes with the other two Ioniq EVs, thanks to vertically oriented headlights, Hyundai’s signature Parametric Pixel lamps, and sculpted body lines. All Ioniq 9 trims achieve 300-plus miles of range on a complete charge.

Hyundai's Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), which the Ioniq 9 is built on, emphasizes aerodynamics with a low drag coefficient that help it achieve optimal range. It has a longer wheelbase (123.2 inches) than Hyundai’s other three-row vehicle, the Palisade, giving it ample interior space. The cargo area measures 21.9 cubic feet, but folding the third row flat when it’s not in use for seating will increase that space to 46.7 cu. ft. The handy front trunk can hold 3.1 cubic feet of goods in the RWD Ioniq 9 and 1.8 cubic feet with AWD. Like all other Hyundais, this model is covered by America’s Best Warranty, including 10 years/100,000 miles on the powertrain.

Depending on the layout of the second row (two captain’s chairs or a three-person bench seat), it will accommodate either six or seven passengers. Since it’s an EV, the floor is flat, enabling easy movement between the rows. Hyundai has made exceptional comfort a priority, with first- and second-row Relaxation Seats that recline and have leg rests. The sliding Universal Island 2.0 console can move as much as to 7.5 inches so that both the first- and second-row occupants can use it.

Trims and Performance

Hyundai presents rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions of the Ioniq 9 in six trims: S, SE, SEL, Limited, Calligraphy, and Calligraphy Design. The base trim, called Long-Range RWD, has a 160-kW electric motor propelling its rear axle, giving it a 0-to-60 time of 8.4 seconds. The Long-Range AWD boosts performance and range with the addition of a 70-kW motor to the front axle; its time to hit 60 mph is officially estimated at 6.2 seconds. The Performance AWD sits at the top of the Ioniq 9 hierarchy and makes the 0-to-60 dash in just 4.9 seconds, thanks to dual 160-kW motors – one on each axle.

Charging

A 110.3 kWh battery pack and 800-volt architecture are standard on every trim. This setup allows all Ioniq 9 trims to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes via a Level 3/DC fast charger at 350 kW. The standard NACS port makes the Ioniq 9 compatible with 17,000-plus Tesla Supercharger stations as well as the IONNA charging network. A properly equipped Ioniq 9 will be able to pull a trailer weighing as much as 5,000 pounds (depending on how much weight is being carried inside the vehicle), but you can expect to achieve less range when it’s towing.

Standard Features

The base S trim has a middle-row sliding bench (with a 60/40 split seat and manual entry assist) and a manually folding third-row bench for two for seven-passenger capacity. Its other primary amenities are proximity keyless entry, push-button start, stain-resistant fabric upholstery, heated front seats, two zones of climate control for both the first and middle rows, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 24-inch panoramic display formed by the 12-inch digital gauge cluster and 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone charging, seven USB-C ports, and two 12V power outlets (front row and cargo area). Its exterior equipment includes auto-retracting door handles, rain-sensing aerodynamic windshield wipers, rooftop rails, auto-on/off LED projector-style headlights, LED taillights and daytime running lights, heated mirrors with LED turn indicators, and rear privacy glass.

The SE adds a power-adjustable front passenger seat and Terrain Mode Select, which allows the driver to choose special modes for driving in snow, mud, or sand. The SEL advances to H-Tex leatherette upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, power-folding exterior mirrors, a hands-free power liftgate, ambient interior lighting with 64 customizable colors, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink.

The Limited moves to six-passenger seating with a pair of captain’s chairs for the middle row. It also adds Hyundai Digital Key 2, a fingerprint scanner, driver’s-seat position memory, a power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, manual rear side-window sunshades, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power capability. Passenger comfort and maneuverability are maximized with power-folding third-row seats, a sliding Universal Island center console, and – for the first two rows – Hyundai’s Relaxation Seats, which are heated and ventilated in both rows and get one-touch walk-in access for the second row along with wing-out headrests and extendable leg rests.

The Calligraphy raises the caliber of its amenities with Hyundai’s Ergo Motion driver’s seat with posture support, a two-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel, a head-up display, a microfiber suede headliner, perforated door trim inserts, dynamic welcome lighting, trim-specific exterior details, sport-alloy pedals, and a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Calligraphy Design gets the same list plus 21-inch turbine-style wheels and matte-finish exterior paint.

Advanced Safety Technology

Like every Hyundai model, the 2026 Ioniq 9 is packed with a considerable array of advanced driver-assist tech, starting with the SmartSense technology suite. It consists of adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, driver attention warning, lane following assist, lane keeping assist, forward attention warning, highway driving assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, parking distance warning (front and rear), safe exit assist, and advanced rear occupant alert. It also has forward collision-avoidance assist with evasive steering and detection of car/pedestrian/cyclist, oncoming lane changes, lane changes from the side, and junction turning/crossing.

A surround view monitor is added at the SEL level along with a blind-spot view monitor, parking collision-avoidance assist (reverse), and side detection capability for the parking distance warning. The Calligraphy and Calligraphy Design are the only trims that get Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 and parking collision-avoidance assist with side detection.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Hyundai has recently upped its game in the infotainment department with a standard panoramic curved display that combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment display. The universal components are wireless smartphone connectivity (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), navigation, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and Wi-Fi hotspot access. Over-the-air software updates and Hyundai Pay are also found on all trims. Bluelink is standard too, but with different package levels: the S, SE, and SEL get the Bluelink+ Basic with Connected Care and Remote Charging Access while the Limited, Calligraphy, and Calligraphy Design upgrade to Bluelink+ Advanced with Remote and Guidance.
