2025 Hyundai Elantra Hero

The compact sedan segment has always represented value, especially for young drivers and first-time vehicle buyers. Since 1990, the Elantra has defined this concept, not just because of its low cost/high reliability combo, but also because of its long warranty coverage. Now that it’s in its seventh generation, which began in 2021, it’s known for having far more comfort features, even in its lower-cost trims. There’s even a performance-centered version called the N Line, which puts out a turbocharged 201 horsepower (compared to the 147 hp of the rest of the lineup) and is otherwise made distinct by performance tires, paddle shifters, and a racy look.

Trims and Mechanical Details

The 2025 Elantra comes in a selection of five trims: SE, SEL Sport, SEL Convenience, Limited, and N Line. The first four receive a 147-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The N Line has more power, thanks to its turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with an output of 201 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Instead of the CVT, it has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

It's nicely efficient as well, with the base SE returning 32 mpg around town and 41 mpg on the highway. The SEL Sport, SEL Convenience, and Limited carry a bit more standard equipment, and that extra weight translates to slightly lower fuel economy at 30 mpg city/39 mpg highway. The higher-output N Line is rated for 28 city/35 highway.

Standard and Available Amenities

The SE has the expected manually adjustable front seats and fabric upholstery, but it has some more upscale attributes as well: remote keyless entry, auto-on/off LED headlights, four USB ports (including two Type-C), and a 4.2-inch gauge cluster. The SEL Sport adds two zones of automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry, wireless phone charging, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, push-button ignition, alloy sport pedals, and gloss-black accents on the outside. The SEL Convenience debuts this model year with heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, a sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, Hyundai Pay, and a 60/40-split rear seatback with a folding center armrest and cupholders, but it does not have the gloss-black outer trim, wireless phone charging, leather-wrapped steering wheel/shift knob, or alloy pedals.

The Limited focuses on an upscale atmosphere with leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, wireless phone charging, a leather-wrapped steering wheel/shift knob, Digital Key, hands-free trunk opening, exterior mirrors with built-in turn indicators, and LED taillights. Besides the stronger powertrain, the N Line gets alloy pedals, summer performance tires, sport-style seats upholstered in a mix of leather and fabric, and a trim-specific steering wheel with paddle shifters, plus the sportiest overall design.

Advanced Safety Technologies

Hyundai’s SmartSense safety technology bundle comes standard in the 2025 Elantra. All trims have automatic high beams, driver attention warning, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision-avoidance warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and safe exit warning. The SEL Convenience and Limited have an enhanced forward collision system with cyclist and junction-turning detection. The SEL Sport, Limited, and N Line get adaptive cruise control. Highway driving assist is only included on the Limited.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The SE and SEL Sport are given an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the convenience of wireless smartphone connection (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), HD Radio, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and an audio system. The SEL Convenience and higher-priced trims move up to a 10.25-inch touchscreen that adds navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio; however, this version requires manually plugging in your smartphone since it’s not set up for wireless connection. The Limited gets a sound upgrade to a Bose system with eight speakers.
