Value has always been a Hyundai hallmark, and the Tucson certainly doesn’t let down its drivers. Along with the Equinox, it has the lowest base MSRP of the group: $30,700. The Escape stickers at $31,750, while the CR-V is the most expensive at $32,420.

Another tradition that continues with the Tucson is America’s Best Warranty. This industry-leading coverage includes a five-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a ten-year or 100,000-mile powertrain protection plan. The others only provide basic coverage for three years or 36,000 miles and powertrain safeguards for five years or 60,000 miles. Hyundai includes five years of roadside assistance with no mileage limit. Chevrolet and Ford offer the same duration but limit coverage to 60,000 miles. Honda’s roadside assistance lasts three years or 36,000 miles.

Powertrain

The Tucson features a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This conventional non-turbocharged setup simplifies maintenance and supports long-term reliability without sacrificing performance. It produces 187 horsepower, which is among the highest in this group. The other manufacturers opt for smaller 1.5-liter engines (four cylinders for the CR-V and Equinox and three cylinders for the Escape) that require more complex systems (turbochargers) to increase their output. The Honda's engine makes 190 horsepower, putting it just ahead of the Tucson. The Equinox and Escape have respective outputs of 175 and 180 horsepower.

Among these four crossovers, the Tucson earns the highest overall rating from Edmunds' review staff: 7.8 out of 10. The CR-V scored a 7.5, while the Equinox (5.7) and Escape (5.8) have the lowest rankings. In specific review categories, the Tucson was rated the highest for in-cabin tech, storage/cargo, and value. The Tucson tied with the CR-V for driving experience.

Towing and Cargo Space

People buy crossovers for versatility, especially when they need to haul things. Thanks to its larger engine displacement, the Tucson can tow up to 2,750 pounds when it’s equipped with optional trailer brakes (or 1,650 pounds without). The CR-V, Escape, and Equinox are limited to 1,500 pounds. Cargo space is another strong point for the Tucson, with 38.7 cubic feet behind the second row. In comparison, the Equinox has 29.8 cubic feet, while the Escape has 37.5 cubic feet. The CR-V is slightly larger, with 39.3 cubic feet of cargo space. Folding the Tucson's rear seats down will increase capacity to 74.8 cubic feet – more than you’ll get in the Equinox (63.5 cubic feet) or the Escape (65.4 cubic feet). The Honda has 1.7 cubic feet more total cargo space than the Tucson.
