2020 Hyundai Kona for Sale in Springfield, MA
The 2020 Hyundai Kona is one of the most versatile and well-equipped vehicles in the crossover camp. As it continues its award-winning first generation, the Kona remains an exceptional value, especially since more standard technology features have been added to the various trim levels for this model year. Both engines that are offered for the Kona boast a blend of power and fuel efficiency perfectly suited for a small crossover.
The 2020 Kona is offered in five trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited, and Ultimate. Hyundai loads all Kona models with plenty of standard features; even the base SE has alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, a rearview camera, and some active safety technology. The SEL trim adds roof rails, heated front seats, keyless ignition, and satellite radio. The SEL Plus gets most of the SEL’s features but also adds a sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, an Infinity eight-speaker audio system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and the Hyundai Blue Link communications system. The Limited trim comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and automatic climate control. The top-of-the-line Ultimate trim receives an upgraded 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a navigation system, a head-up display, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and some additional driver aids.
Mechanical Features and Fuel Economy
The SE, SEL, and SEL Plus trims are powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine which is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. This 2.0-liter engine puts out 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque, which is sufficient for a subcompact crossover. The Limited and Ultimate trims move up to a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 175 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Their transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. All Kona Models come standard with front-wheel drive but have all-wheel drive availability.
The Kona’s compact size and efficient engines give it excellent fuel economy. The 2.0-liter engine with FWD gets an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the AWD models follow closely with 26 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. The turbocharged engine produces similar fuel efficiency, with FWD models getting an EPA-rated 28 mpg city and 32 mpg highway, while AWD versions achieve 26 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
Safety and Technology
The ’20 Kona proves to be quite safe, as it received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for its exceptional crashworthiness in government-issued collision tests. Hyundai includes some great advanced safety features on all Kona models, such as lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, and forward collision-avoidance assist. The SEL trim adds standard lane change assist, a rear cross-traffic collision warning system, and blind-spot collision warning. The Ultimate trim also gets smart cruise control, parking distance warning, and collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection.
