The redesigned Kona EV is presented in a trio of trim choices: SE, SEL, and Limited. In all trims, a single electric motor powers the front wheels, but there are two different sizes. The SE’s 99-kW motor rated at 133 horsepower while the other two trims get a 150-kW motor that makes 201 horsepower. The torque output is 188 pounds-feet.
The 48.6 kWh battery pack in the SE allows for a maximum driving range of up to 200 miles, while the larger 64.8 kWh battery pack (in the SEL and Limited) provides a maximum driving range of up to 261 miles. When the Level III quick charge takes 45 minutes to reach 80% (from 10%).The vehicle also has a regenerative braking feature that captures kinetic energy formed during the stopping process and stores it in the battery to add small amount.
The SE contains cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 60/40 split fold-flat rear seatback with recline, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster display, proximity key with remote start, four USB ports (two front and two rear), LED daytime running lights, heated side mirrors with turn indicators, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The SEL adds an 8-way power driver seat with lumbar support, heated front seats, rear-seat AC vents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and roof side rails, while the Limited has H-Tex leatherette-trimmed seats, ventilated front seats, wireless device charging, a heated steering wheel, a power tilt-and-slide sunroof with sunshade, a hands-free smart liftgate with auto-open, the Digital Key 2 Touch, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and full LED taillights.
Hyundai SmartSense is installed on every 2024 Kona EV, providing blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, lane following assist, adaptive cruise control, driver attention monitoring, safe exit warning, highway driving assist, a rearview monitor, rear occupant alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. The Limited is loaded with Remote Smart Parking Assist, a blind-spot view monitor, a surround-view monitor, and parking distance warning (forward, side, and reverse).
The 2024 Kona EV’s infotainment system has a 12.3-inch navigation touchscreen, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth connectivity. The lower trims have a basic sound system, but the Limited is upgraded with a Bose premium stereo.
