The quintet of trim choices for the 2023 Tucson are the SE, SEL, XRT, N Line, and Limited. Their powertrain consists of a 187 hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive as a popular option, especially in the Northeast. As estimated by the EPA, a Tucson with FWD achieves 25 mpg around town and 32 mpg on the highway. AWD changes the ratings to 23 city/28 highway. You can do some light towing – not more than 2,000 pounds – with a Tucson that’s equipped with trailer brakes.
The base SE is nicely set up with keyless entry, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, front and rear skid plates, two USB ports, a 12V outlet, a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback, and a dual-level cargo floor. Improvements to the SEL include proximity entry, LED taillights, heated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, rooftop rails, a hands-free liftgate, Digital Key (which lets you use your smartphone as the key), push-button ignition, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, two second-row USB ports, and rear privacy glass. The Convenience Package is optional to add LED cabin lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a sunroof, simulated-leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, and ambient interior lighting. The XRT gets as standard the contents of the Convenience Package (but without the LED cabin lighting or sunroof) along with upgraded ambient interior lighting, black exterior elements, voice-controlled heating and cooling, and a HomeLink universal garage door opener.
The N Line has an elevated look with its twin exhaust, rear spoiler, panoramic sunroof, trim-specific grille, and leather/cloth combo seating. Its other standard features include a uniquely styled steering wheel and shift knob, alloy sport pedals and scuff plates, and a black headliner. The Limited reverts to the conventional Tucson treatment, but with LED projector headlights, rain-sensing wipers, leather seats (ventilated in the front row), a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, position memory for the driver’s seat, heated rear outboard seats, and a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters.
Hyundai’s SmartSense advanced driver-assist technology bundle furnishes the Tucson with some important crash-mitigating features. On the SE and SEL, that means blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, rear occupant alert, and forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection. When the SEL has the optional Convenience Package added it will also get enhanced rear occupant alert, which comes standard in the higher trims. The Limited adds a lot more, with navigation-based adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot view monitor, highway driving assist, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, front and rear parking sensors, Remote Smart Parking Assist (self-parking), and a surround-view camera.
Everyone will stay connected in the SE thanks to its 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. The higher trims also get SiriusXM satellite radio. At the XRT level, the touchscreen is enlarged to 10.25 inches, but the smartphone integration becomes the plug-in variety; dynamic voice recognition is also added. The N Line and Limited receive a very nice Bose audio system.
