Trims and Powertrains

There are three trims on offer with the ‘23 Ioniq 5: SE, SEL, and Limited. A trio of powertrains are available as well: Standard Range with a single rear-wheel drive (RWD) electric motor producing 168 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, another single RWD electric motor producing 225 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) arrangement generating 320 horsepower and 446 lb.-ft. of torque. The Standard Range is only available with the entry-level SE, while the other configurations can be ordered with any of the three trims. The battery pack in the SE Standard Range is 58 kWh, with the other Ioniq 5 trims getting a heftier 77.4-kWh unit that allows for a maximum towing capacity of 2,300 pounds.

Range and Charging

The EPA states that the SE Standard Range Ioniq 5 is good for a combined 220-mile driving range and gets 110 MPGe (MPG equivalent). With RWD, the Ioniq 5 can travel up to 303 miles and achieve an estimated 114 MPGe, while AWD Ioniq 5s are rated to deliver a combined 266-mile range and 101 MPGe. When it’s plugged in to a 350-kW charger, the ’23 Ioniq 5 can go from a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 18 minutes.

Notable Features

The Ioniq 5’s standard exterior highlights are heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, auto-retracting flush door handles, auto on/off headlights, LED lighting elements, a power-operated charging port door, and a rear spoiler. The SE’s interior is also treated to a number of high-level features, such as heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, stain-resistant fabric upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rear privacy glass, and a 60/40-split folding rear seatback.

The SEL’s appeal is enhanced with power-folding side mirrors, a hands-free liftgate, Digital Key (allows you to lock, unlock, and start the Ioniq 5 from your smartphone), H-Tex-trimmed seats, a heated steering wheel, second-row HVAC vents, interior mood lighting, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Limited capitalizes on luxury with heated and ventilated front seats, a glass roof, projector-style LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a head-up display, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, and decked-out driver’s seat with position memory and a special relaxation function. This trim also gets gloss-black exterior accents, a sliding center console, rear side-window sunshades, and bi-directional charging, enabling the Ioniq 5 to charge other EVs.

Advanced Safety Technology

Hyundai’s SmartSense safety suite is standard in the 2023 Ioniq 5. At the base level its components are forward collision-avoidance assist (with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection), lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, driver attention warning, safe-exist assist, rear occupant alert, and rear parking sensors. The SEL and Limited also get front parking sensors. The Limited also has a blind-spot view monitor, a surround-view camera, rear parking collision-avoidance assist, and semi-autonomous parking assistance (a.k.a. Smart Park).

Multimedia and Connectivity

Each 2023 Ioniq 5 trim is issued a sophisticated infotainment system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, built-in navigation, smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, a multi-speaker audio system (the Limited gets a deluxe Bose system with eight speakers), a front-row USB data port, four USB charging ports (two in each row), and access to Bluelink connected services. The SEL and Limited also get wireless phone charging for the utmost convenience behind the wheel.
