Overview

Hyundai had an immediate winner when it introduced the Palisade for the 2020 model year. The automaker’s largest model stands out in a crowded market with distinctive looks and plenty of upscale features at an affordable price point. A bold, geometric grille and unique headlights are just some elements that give the Palisade a confident and upscale appearance.

But Hyundai has still managed to improve this strong seller for 2022, putting in even more standard safety technologies (safe exit assist and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert) and adding turn-signal indicators to the exterior mirrors. Every Palisade is also covered by America’s Best Warranty, getting bumper-to-bumper coverage for 5 years/60,000 miles and 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain protection. Hyundai also includes 3 years of complimentary scheduled maintenance (tire rotations and oil/filter changes) and 5 years of roadside assistance.

Trims and Powertrain

The four Palisade trims are the SE, SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy. Their powertrain is a 3.8-liter V6 (291 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive is the default, all-wheel drive is a popular option that’s available on all trims. The EPA has estimated the fuel economy of the FWD version at 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. With AWD, highway mileage changes to 24 mpg. The Palisade makes a great road-trip vehicle, especially since it can tow up to 5,000 pounds (when properly equipped).

Standard Equipment and Packages

The eight-passenger SE gets an abundance of standard features, highlighted by LED headlights with auto on/off, noise-reducing windshield glass, 18-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, a 3.5-inch driver information display, fabric upholstery, second- and third-row seating with 60/40-split folding benches and ceiling-mounted vents, a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, and rear privacy glass. The SEL changes its second row to captain’s chairs, limiting seating to seven – but the three-person bench can be added back at no cost. It also receives a power sunroof, rooftop rails, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, dual-zone climate control, an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar control, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, second-row automatic HVAC controls, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The available SEL Convenience Package will add 20-inch wheels, an auto-leveling rear suspension, noise-reducing front side windows, front parking sensors, a hands-free tailgate, a 7-inch driver information display, rear side window sunshades, wireless device charging, third-row USB ports, and a 115-volt power outlet. The optional SEL Premium Package adds leather seating, a heated steering wheel, a driver’s memory system, an eight-way power front passenger seat, heated second-row seats, power-folding third-row seats, and additional safety and infotainment gear (details follow in the later sections).

The upgrades on the Limited include all the features of the SEL’s optional packages, plus a dual-panel sunroof, automatic windshield wipers, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, Nappa leather upholstery, a driver’s seat with a leg extension and additional lumbar controls, heated and ventilated first- and second-row seats, ambient interior lighting, and audio system and safety equipment upgrades (details are covered below). The Calligraphy gets all of the above plus unique rear accent lighting, a trim-specific grille, upgraded front and rear skids plates, quilted leather door panels, and a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Advanced Safety Technology

The 2022 Palisade gets a suite of advanced driver aids, including forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane following assist, lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, safe exit assist, adaptive cruise control, and rear occupant alert. A more advanced lane-keeping system is added to the SEL with the Premium Package and higher trims. The Limited and Calligraphy also get a surround-view monitor and blind-spot camera.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The base infotainment system found on the SE and SEL has an 8-inch color touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming capability. The SEL with Premium Package, Limited, and Calligraphy upgrade to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, an in-car driver intercom, and three years of BlueLink telematics service for vehicle diagnostics and emergency help. Smartphone integration changes to a plug-in configuration as the larger touchscreen isn’t compatible with wireless technology. The Limited and Calligraphy also get a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon premium sound system.
