2020 Hyundai Sonata Springfield

Overview

Returning completely redesigned for the 2020 model year is the stylish and refined Hyundai Sonata. This best-selling veteran of the Korean automaker's lineup is looking better than ever as it waits in the wings to begin its eighth generation - and it has more advanced features than ever as well. Although there will still be a bit of a wait until the official release (slated for October), once the leaves start falling you can get your hands on one of the '20 Sonata's four trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, or Limited. Each of these trims will have the option of either the all-new Smartstream 191 horsepower 2.5-liter GDI engine or a 180 hp 1.6-liter T-GDI (turbo). Both of these will partner with an eight-speed automatic transmission to  treat you to above-average fuel economy; the GDI is expected to get an EPA-estimated combined city and highway 33 mpg, with the T-GDI getting a combined 31 mpg.

Plenty of Convenience

You'll be delighted to see just how much luxury you'll find in Hyundai's flagship vehicle. Even at the Sonata's affordable price, you can get features such as a sunroof, a wireless smartphone charging pad, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth, heated and ventilated front seating, and the exciting new Digital Key technology (more on that later in this section). Another new offering for this Sonata is a premium twelve-speaker Bose audio system (available with the higher trim levels), as well as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and a speech recognition system through Blue Link. A standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes on the base SE, while the top-tier Limited trim boasts a 12.3-inch screen with an enhanced display that includes four types of views: utility, driver assistance, navigation, and parking assistance. In addition, a 10.25-inch HD screen will allow occupants to control the audio and navigation functions with ease. This display can also split its screen to show audio and navigation at the same time.

The innovative Hyundai Digital Key is one of the most interesting and appealing additions to this new Sonata. Available for the higher trims, this system uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to detect when the driver's smartphone is within proximity to the vehicle. On top of this, NFC will be paired to the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communications system, allowing you to lock, unlock, and start the car and activate the panic alarm, all via your smartphone. It should be noted, however, that Digital Key is only available for Android users.

Active Safety Smart Tech

High on the list of the '20 Sonata of Hyundai's technology features is the SmartSense suite of advanced driver-assistance technologies. It packages forward collision assistance, lane keeping assist, advanced smart cruise control with stop-and-go technology, and optional highway driving assist that will help keep your car within the center lane while also maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle directly in front of you. Hyundai's Blue Link technology will also be standard on every Sonata for the first three years of ownership, after which you can subscribe to enjoy its services further. With Blue Link's technology, you can conveniently see whether or not the doors are locked or the windows are open when you're away from the car. Blue Link also features remote-start enhancements, including a profile selection system that will apply your personal driver settings for seating and mirror positions, as well as Maintenance Alert Enhancement where maintenance interval tracking will be displayed on the multimedia system.
